Description

The STCW Basic Safety Training course at HLSCC is an Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA)-approved five-day programme covering four mandatory elements of STCW 2010 (Section A‑VI/1). 

 

It provides essential safety knowledge for seafarers working on seagoing vessels, ensuring compliance with international standards for personal safety, emergency response, and safe working practices. 


Personal Survival Techniques 

Teaches how to respond to emergencies at sea, including evacuation procedures and practical use of lifejackets and liferafts. 


Fire Prevention & Firefighting  

Covers fire causes, prevention measures, and response techniques, with practical training using firefighting equipment and breathing apparatus. 


Elementary First Aid  

Provides essential first aid knowledge and practical skills to respond effectively to basic injury or illness onboard. 


Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities  

Introduces onboard safety procedures, accident prevention, and working life at sea. It including the new STCW Code, Section A-VI/A-4 amendments (effective 1st January 2026) that cover preventing and responding to harassment, violence and bullying. 


 Prerequisites 

None* 

*Seafarers are required to update or refresh their training every 5 years
